Spain's data protection agency receives its first breach carried out by an AI agent
An undisclosed Spanish organisation reported an attack in which an autonomous AI agent searched for flaws, logged in and explored the application on its own until it could modify personal data and view invoices. It is the first notification of its kind received by the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD), which is still analysing the case.

What happened
Before 14 September, the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) received the first notification of a personal data breach caused by an autonomous artificial intelligence agent. The affected organisation has not been named. INCIBE-CERT reported the case on 24 September.
According to what has been published, the agent searched for vulnerabilities in generic files, managed to log in and explored the application on its own until it found a flaw that let it modify personal data and access invoices. The AEPD is still analysing the information and has not published conclusions yet.
Why it matters
Until now, finding and exploiting a flaw took time and expertise. An autonomous agent can repeat that work against thousands of targets at once, without rest. It doesn't invent new vulnerabilities: it exploits the ones already exposed, faster than anyone else.
What it means for your company
Breaches aren't getting more sophisticated, they're getting cheaper. Any internet-facing application with a known flaw, a leaked credential or a forgotten panel is going to be found sooner.
Reviewing your exposed surface and leaked credentials is no longer a once-a-year task: it is exactly what an automated attacker will do tomorrow, so it pays to do it first.
